ROSEMARY HERB IN MY TERRACE GARDEN


Rosemary symbolizes memory and remembrance. Rosemary Tea is said to enhance our memory.


 Rosemary is one of the most aromatic herbs.

Its lemon Pine aroma blends very well with Garlic, Olive oil, all types of bread, tomato sauce dip, pizza, focaccia.

Rosemary herb is native to the Mediterranean region but it is worldwide grown now and loved by all people.

Rosemary is a perennial evergreen plant with beautiful blue flowers.

It can be grown outdoors as a perennial shrub that can grow so vigorously in an ideal climate.

Rosemary can be grown very slow from seeds. So it is highly suggested to start new Rosemary plants from cuttings of the mother plant.

The cuttings grow quickly in an appropriate environment, we offer and will be ready for outdoors planning.

Rosemary plants love the full sunlight.

Once established, rosemary can happily grow four feet in height and spread four feet as well. 
Water evenly throughout the growing phase.

Pruning is a must to avoid the herb getting lanky.




Snip off the young stems with leaves for culinary use,  if you want fresh flavor in your food.

Rosemary is not only used as a culinary herb but also it has been grown as an ornamental plant. 

Due to its low maintenance and fast-growing nature adjoined with the beautiful blossom and its mesmerizing fragrance, it has been loved by all over the world. 

Rosemary plant's botanical name is Rosemarinus Officinalis. This is an evergreen herb grown as a shrub.
It is the native of the Mediterranean Region. The name of rosemary is derived from two Latin words namely, ros that means "dew" and marinus means "sea". and the so-called " dew of the sea". In Hindi, it is known as Gulmehendi. It is cultivated almost all over the world.

Mythological information:

The Greek Goddess Aphrodite was covered in rosemary when she rose from the sea. Another legend tells that rosemary flower turned from white to pale violet when Virgin Mary spread her cloak over a white blossomed rosemary bush while she was taking rest. Hence this bush is known as the rose of Mary.

I purchased this herb in tiny size from Nurserylive in February 2020. I transplanted in a grow bag 9"X9" size with a good soil mix. Let me see how it will grow in the upcoming hot summer months. I
hope its happy growth and wait with my fingers crossed.








BRINJALS IN TERRACE GARDEN

Brinjal is known as aubergine or eggplant. It is interesting and fun to grow and a great taste to enjoy.
Growing vegetables in our home garden can be so rewarding when the period comes to harvest these
versatile veggies. 

Health benefits:

Brinjal is a great source of vitamin C Vitamin K, Vitamin B6, Magnesium, Manganese, Phosphorous, copper, folic acid, potassium and many more nutrients.

They are a high source of fibre and low soluble carbohydrates. They are really supporting the regulation of blood sugar levels.




Season to grow: All year around.

Sunlight requirements: 7-9 hours under direct sunlight.

Water requirements: watering both times during summer. water daily basis.

Soil Requirements: Well-drained soil with a pH ranging between 6.5 to 7.5

Germination period: 7 to 10 days

Harvest time: 60 to 90 days

TABLE LEMON IN TERRACE GARDEN


This is a grafted table lemon plant purchased from a nursery with leaf buds four months before.

It is not difficult to grow fruit trees in terrace garden. They can yield a considerable quantity of healthy and tasty fruits with some tricks.

Grafted varieties of fruit plants work best in terrace garden as they will start fruits garden in the same year.

 
 
How to grow a healthy lemon tree?

Use big size container with good drainage holes or grow bags uv trees 200 gsm 18 inches ×18 inches. 

Soil mix as follows:

Garden soil or red soil 30%
Coco peat  25%
Vermi compost 25%
Neem cake powder 10%
Organic compost 10%

Transplant the sapling in the grow bag. Water the soil mix and keep it in morning direct sunlight and keep moist until the plant established.

Water them plant both morning and evening. 
Spray water over the leaves at  noon 12 -1 p.m.

Fertilize the plant once in 15 days with a hand புல் of vermicompost, Neem cake powder and organic compost mixture. 


This lemon requires consistency water supply.

HOW TO GROW CHERRY TOMATOES SUCCESSFULLY?


Cherry tomatoes are cute bite-sized fruits that are good for our health and can be enjoyed without cooking 

Cherry tomatoes are packed with full of Vitamins and minerals  that promoted  an ultimate health.  They are rich source of Vitamin C.

It is said that the Cherry tomatoes were cultivated first and eventually grown in European Countries and Israel.  Then they were commercialized by England popular grocery chain Marks &Spencer during 20 th century.

Cherry tomatoes are popular as one of the primary ingredients in our meal. The nutritional and healthy benefits of Cherry tomatoes are an excellent source of lycopene. It treats information and blood clotting thereby reduces the risk of Ischemic Strokes. 

The Intake of Cherry tomatoes may also reduce your risk of prostatic cancer.

The lycopene in Cherry tomatoes  supports bone health especially in women at risk of osteoporosis.

Cherry tomatoes  are also the rich source of Vitamin A, Vitamin E and Potassium.



How to grow cherry tomatoes in our terrace garden?

There is  no need to soak the seeds.  It is highly appreciated that the Cherry tomato plants should be grown from seedlings rather than from seeds. It is the fastest way to grow cherry tomato plants from seedlings.



Prepare the soil mix first. Mix the garden soil/red soil, cocopeat, vermicompost, Neem cake powder and organic manure in the proportion of 25:30:25:15:5 respectively. You can replace the organic manure by powder mix of wood ash, lime or egg shells. 


Mix well and set aside. Take a portion of soil mix and fill 3/4 level of the cavities of seedling tray.
Sow the tomato seeds one or two in each cavity 
@half inch depth.



Cover the seeds and spray water. Keep moisture all the time until the seeds sprout. Water them gently and carefully until four leaves develop. Now It's the time to transplant.

Fill the 8 growbags sized 12"×12"  upto 3/4 th level with Prepared soil mix. Remove each baby plant carefully from seedling tray and transplanting in grow bag 2 inch depth and set the soil around the plant. Do the same for remaining grow bags.

Water them carefully around the plants. BY plants will establish within 2 hours.

Tomato plants love full sunlight and sufficient watering. Water them regularly in morning and evening.

Feed the plant with a handful organic  manure every fifteen days once. 

You can feed calcium with the lime water lime 25 gms mixed with one bucketful water and add to the soil mix one mug each plant.

After 5 days Feed potash with wood ash or it is better to grind the banana peels for about 25 into a coarse paste and mix with one bucket water. Mix well and add to the soil.

You should watch the entire plant every day whether it is attacked by any pest like leaf minor or leafy bugs.

The neem oil is the best solutuon to repel the pests away from the plants. Take 5 ml neem oil in one litre water and shake well. Then spray all over the leaves mostly beneath the leaves.

This neem oil spray is most effective when sprayed After 7 p.m

TOMATOES IN TERRACE GARDEN

Dear Guys!

How can you grow your own organic Tomatoes from seeds in your terrace garden?


Here is Super easy method! Do follow.


Prepare the soil mix by mixing Red soil or garden soil, Coco Peat, Vermi compost, Organic manure, Neem cake powder in the ratio 25:25:25:15:10. Keep ready.

Take a small portion of soil mix and fill the seedling try. Sow the tomato seeds in the seedling tray cavities. Sprinkle water and keep the tray moist all times.

After 3-4 days, all the seeds sprout, You see.

After 4-6 set of leaves develop, the seedlings or tomato babies are ready to transplanting.

Fill the remaining soil mix to 3/4 th of the grow bag sized 18×15 inches or any big container. Transplant two tomato sprouts from seedling tray to each grow bag equidistantly.

Do the same for 4 grow bags in the same manner. To get constant supply of Tomatoes, you need 5 grow bags each containing two plants. So you have to grow 10 plants at a time. 

Water the plants regularly in the morning and evening.

Don't over water the baby plants.

Once plants grow five inch height, give support with two 4 feet height sticks above the surface of the soil and tie the plants with sticks gently. You should tie the plants with stick every one feet so that the plant get good support while it bears lot of fruits. 

Since the tomato leaves are prone to attacks of mealy bugs,  leaf miners and other pests, spray the mixture of neem oi 5 ml+5 ml of soap base or vim liquid or shampoo+1 litre of water every 10 days once.

Add a handful of organic manure fifteen days once to feed the plants.

Else, mix the lime 10 gms in one bucket of water and give one mug for each grow bag to feed calcium to the flowering period of tomato plants.
This should be done in every 15 days once.

Grind the 25  banana peels  in a mixer jar with water and mix in a bucketful water and feed potash to plants every 15 days once.

Feed nitrogen with two handfuls of Vermi compost every 15 days once.

Always use hand shower or water spray all over the plants with love and care. 


















 





A good supply of home grown Tomatoes can make the delightful difference to your daily meals. It is easy to grow your own delicious Tomatoes with just a very few tricks to get your beautiful Tomatoes within 70 days. 






 

Even If you are not having no sufficient place in your home and suitable environmental conditions, you can grow your rich Tomatoes successfully in any container or grow bag without much efforts.
